Josie Lane is sassy, sexy, brash, bold and beautiful. In this performance at the Hayes Theatre she performs songs from Asian inspired backgrounds. Lane digs into her Filipino heritage and shares songs that started her along a musical path. She shares anecdotes with the audience about her mother, her childhood and her later career as a singer and performer.
Lane’s story telling is loud and dynamic and she holds nothing back. Sharing the stories behind the song choices allows her to make a strong connection with the audience but it is when Lane sings that we are captivated. Lane’s voice transforms her into whichever character she is portraying, including the Filipino ping pong expert from Priscilla, Queen of the Desert and Mulan, the empowered Chinese legend who was the only Disney ‘princess’ that Lane could relate to.
In Asian Provocateur you feel that Lane is letting you into her world and you are grateful for her honesty and sense of humour. She finds ways to tell stories that make you blush and laugh – some might say that at times she isn’t very lady like but in this show she is all woman.
Lane’s personality and voice fill the simply set stage and the audience loved her making this dynamo’s performance a perfect fit for the Hayes Cabaret Season.
